Sergio Araujo is a carioca, journalist and advertising and art photographer. Graduated music teacher, with a postgraduate degree in electroacoustic music in France (composition and musical pedagogy), and bassoonist and clarinetist in the Camerata de Santa Teresa chamber ensemble. He was a music producer, presenting and producing programs about contemporary music and jazz on the radio. He has been working professionally in the photographic market for over 40 years. He started his work as a photographer as a free-lancer, in the 70s, doing the photographic coverage of the series of shows entitled “Seis e Meia”, at the João Caetano Theater, a project developed by Albino Pinheiro. He worked in concert and theater photography, but soon afterwards extended his work to photojournalism at the agency 'Fotosíntese', of which he became a partner. As a natural outcome of his activity, he entered the advertising market, where he won several awards at regional and national levels. With his connection in the visual arts, he was, little by little, being asked to perform several works in this area, where he came to stand out. |
Since the early 1980s, when he photographed the works of Waltércio Caldas for the exhibition catalog “0 é 1” and “Ping Ping”, he has been photographing works by various artists for the publication of books and art catalogs. Since 1980, he has been doing individual and collective exhibitions of his photographic work: He created and edit, together with Delfina de Araujo, the digital magazine Orchid News, since 1997.
